California's "Sale by the Sea" Sale Results

A pick of five Momentary Magic pregnancies due 9/06 topped the California Convention Sale
at $27,500.

Magic is a Convincer son that died before he received his first proof, from Sikkema-Star-W Mdl Megan-ET (VG-88, DOM). Over +2.00 for type and dairy character, Magic's first TPI was +1749. The pick, consigned by Los Banos breeders Dennis & Kirsten Areias, is out of Den-K Marshall CK Aileen-ET (EX-90), a maternal sister to Rudolph Bond Kiddy (EX-91, EX-MS), and from the same family as Cumulus at ABS. The next six dams are all VG and EX. A syndicate purchased the pick, with members including R John Holsteins, Barney Meza, Dennis Areias and George McClelland, Penngrove, CA. The second high seller at $18,200 was Cranehill Free Laris, a 4/05 Freelance from Ms Cranehill Loela Morty-ET (VG-89). Loela sold for $25,000 in last spring's Gil-Tex Stampede Sale and hails from Signature Estimate Lauris (VG-87) x Lystel Laura Lindy (VG-85, 2y, CAN). Consigned by Cranehill Genetics, Hilmar, CA, the fancy heifer from the Laurie Sheik family sold to the Laris Partners, Laton, CA. The sale was managed by Glaz-Way Enterprises, LLC, Oakdale, CA, with sales staff including Chris Hill, Norm Nabholz, Gil Teixeira, Ryan Matheron, Hank Van Exel, Gary Stouder, Joey Airosa, Ken Melvold and the Cal Poly Dairy Science Club. Held in beautiful San Luis Obispo, the sale averaged $5074 on 54 live Holsteins. Nine picks averaged $7466 and nine embryo lots averaged $3055. There were also six live Jerseys that sold, averaging $3933.
