Pictured here is the gang from Cow Camp 2007, which took place from August
7th to 9th. We had 63
Campers in all that attended.
Our activities included a California Junior Holstein Meeting, a
swim at Bidwell Park at
the Sycamore Pool, located at the One-Mile Recreation Area, which is an
uncommon swimming experience, being a concrete pool built around Big Chico
Creek. On Wednesday,
campers traveled to the CSU Chico Organic Dairy Unit, where Dr. Cindy
Daley and her dairy students gave presentations and opportunities for
hands on learning experiences.
The sessions included Pasture Management, Holistic Herd Health,
Milking demonstrations and Milk Quality Standards educating them in SPI,
PI and LPC values. Next
on their busy agenda was a Dairy Jeopardy Contest completely run by
California's National Dairy Teams including, Justin & Michael Bopp, Taylor
PIres, Alissa Arata, Tony Lopes, Eric Migliazzo and Moderator Rocco
Cunningham. This gave many a chance to "burn those buzzers" with the
knowledge that they have gained of the dairy industry.
After putting their dorm rooms back in order, the group traveled to
Raging Waters in a Charter Bus for a day of fun and sun.
The California Junior Holstein Association would like to thank all
of Dr. Daley's staff that made our stay in Chico so educational, and all
the chaperones of Cow Camp for their patience, kindness and giving of
their time! |
